am i still a tree?

am i still a tree?
reaching up to the heavens above
fluttering my leaves
so each one of them
will receive the warmth of the sun

am i still a tree?
that stands tall, firm on my ground
accepting the heavy winds with courage
with dignity and pride i stand

am i still a tree?
accepting the birds and insects that come abound
a shelter to the heat of the sun
a food source for the hunger of man

am i still a tree?
with my sturdy trunk
and golden bark
that anyone would envy

am i still a tree?
if i fall down
if my leaves leave me
will i still be called a tree?

am i still a tree?
if by chance i fall down and tumble
because of the heavy rains and thunder
by the floods that uprooted me

am i still a tree?
if i can no longer bear fruit
nor give shelter or shade
or even accomodate the birds flying around

am i still a tree?
if im rotten and hollow inside
if im chopped into pieces
will i still be a tree?

a tree
what is it really?
a tree
can it be free?
